The Preparation Group
The preparation group provides a structured, safe and supportive environment for service users
while they are waiting to commence the Key to Change programme.
The Key to Change Programme
The programme is a 16 week programme (3 days per week, 10am – 3.30pm).
It aims to improve the life chances of substance misusers by improving their employment opportunities
and promoting their personal and social development.
Induction
The one week induction period gives individuals the opportunity to interact within a group setting in
order to settle in. Group and Health & Safety Contracts are completed.
Self-Esteem/Confidence Building
Explores where negative messages of self are learned. The emphasis here is focused on breaking
the negative thought processes.
Communication/Assertiveness Skills
This involves a series of self assessment and group exercises that are designed to improve
communication and social skills.
World of Work
Offers an opportunity to explore the options of paid/voluntary work, further and higher education,
training courses and/or leisure courses. CV preparation and Interview practice is also provided.
Substance Awareness (OCN accredited Level 1)
The content of this two week module includes exploring the facts about alcohol, solvents and other
drugs both illicit and prescribed.
Personal Development (OCN accredited Level 1)
This module through the promotion of self-awareness is designed to help individuals reclaim their
personal power, self-dignity and self-respect.
Workshops are held on relapse management, anger management, suicide, self-harm and trauma.
Basic Computer Skills (OCN accredited)
Through basic tasks and supportive teaching, participants are taught basic Word Processing,
Internet, E-mail and Desk Top publishing skills. Individuals are given extensive 1-1 support and are
instructed at their own pace.
Team Building/Group Dynamics
Skills are developed through in house activities and outdoor pursuits.
Individual Support
Each group member will be assigned a key worker and will have monthly meetings with this key worker
to set goals, reflect on his/her progress and receive any additional emotional and practical support.
The Aftercare Programme
On completion of the Key to Change Programme individuals are offered a place in the 12 week
structured aftercare programme. Aftercare examines topics such as:
